GASTOWN UPDATE

Gastown, Sunday, August 20th had to be the best public relations day in the motorcycling history of this province. The weather was perfect and the 2nd Annual Gastown Motorcycle Show n' Shine was an incredible success. There were over 150 bikes entered in the show n' shine and police estimated somewhere between 80-100,000 people passed through over the course of the day. I was so proud and excited to have been a part of something so awesome!

Here are a few cool shots from the show courtesy of Craig Heale & Greg Descantes Photography.

The Felions were there selling their calendars in between fashion shows.

Here is the excellent feedback we received from the GBIS....

Dear Adele and Shannon,

On behalf of the Gastown Business Improvement Society I would like to congratulate BCCOM on an outstanding event. This year’s Gastown Motorcycle Show n Shine was a spectacular success, an accomplishment that could not have been achieved without your excellent organizational skills and the outstanding support of the manufacturers, dealers and participants. We are proud to be partners in this event which has attracted praise across the city including Vancouver City Hall and the Vancouver Police Department.

We strongly believe that Gastown is the perfect venue for this celebration of style, ingenuity and engineering in motorcycles and that this event offers an opportunity to introduce this exciting activity and lifestyle to the general public.

We wish to express our sincere appreciation to all of our partners and the many volunteers for your part in making this event such a success. We hope you enjoyed this year’s Gastown Show n Shine and look forward to working with you again next year.

Best Regards,

Leanore Sali

Iron Woman!!!

Last weekend Darren and I were pretty busy. First we went over to the island to visit his mom and Polo & Kelly and their crew. Here are 2 of their little sweeties, Miranda & Julianna!

Here's the obligatory ferry shot. The weather was awesome!!

Then we headed up to Penticton, with a stopover in Princeton to visit his Dad & Carol, to see Taralyn compete in the Iron Man Triathlon. Did I mention that Taralyn must be crazy???

If you look really close you can see her in the middle near the top with a sexy pink swim cap on!

We posted up a bunch of signs with words of encouragement for her along the bike route. It was really cool to be up there cheering her on....even if she is mentally deranged!

I think she especially appreciated it at the Yellow Lake summit after about a 5km uphill climb on the bike in 35 degree heat.

She finished the triathlon in 12 hours, 48 minutes and 35 seconds, which was awesome especially for her first time!!!

You can see her results by cutting and pasting this link into your browser:

This is near the beginning of the marathon run, which is 26.2 miles.....after she had already swam 2.4 miles and biked 112 miles. She is pointing at me yelling "you're signing up for this with me next year right?" YA RIGHT!!!

Here she is at the finish line, where she was pretty sure she never wanted to do this ever again!

Yay! Finally it's all over! Time for some carbs and some SLEEP!!!

On the way home Darren and I stopped in Keremeos to buy some fruit & veggies and if you spent more than $20.00 you received a free zucchini so of course Darren picked out the biggest one he could find, which is funny because he's not really a big fan of zucchini.

So if you have any good zucchini recipes let me know because it looks like we will be eating it everyday for the next week or so. Tonight I made breaded zucchini sticks with lemon mayo (thanks Sarah, you're right the mayo is very yummy!)

CMDRA'S SEASON FINALE

Looking for something to do mid September? You should come check out our season finale on September 16-17th. This is always the best race of the season, as the battles for the 2006 championships continue and the winners are decided here!

You can walk around the pits and see everything from Street bikes to Top Fuel Nitro Harley's up close and personal, as well as the racers and crews that make these incredible machines run. The Top Fuel bikes burn up the 1/4 mile in 6 seconds at over 200 mph! It's awesome!!!

For those of you who have never seen motorcycle drag racing, here is a really cool clip of some of our races last year. Just cut and paste this link into your browser: http://videos.streetfire.net/search/drag%2Bbike/0/D322C946-A0FF-451E-B814-32B9087905FA.htm

Happy Anniversary Sarah & Suds!

Since it is already August 20th in Hong Kong and since tomorrow I will be running around Gastown like a chicken with it's head cut off from about 6am-7pm, I thought I would take this opportunity to wish Sarah & Suds a Happy 1st Anniversary!

Congratulations you guys!!! They say the first year is the hardest and you made it. The best is only yet to come.

I still can't believe it's been a year since I've been able to drink out of a crantini fountain!

So here are some cute photos from the big day.

Barb, Francis and Jacob before Otto came along! He was still there though.

Jacob's sweet photography skills!

Joel hitting the crantini fountain hard!

The result of Joel hitting the crantini fountain hard.....his John Travolta impression when "Stayin' Alive" came on. I don't think I have ever laughed so hard in my life!!! I didn't know he had it in him!

Me and Darren trying to hold each other up as we dance.

It was a fantastic day!
Just wish I had some pics of Pat & Whitney's strip tease!!

Celebration of Light!

Last week Darren, Hilary & I went downtown to visit Sarah, who was apartment-sitting for Whitney, and to check out the fireworks.

I sat down by the coffee table and after a few minutes, I was quite startled when I looked down and discovered legs and plastic fruit under the table. That could only happen at Whitney's place!

The fireworks were great! I am going again tomorrow with Mom & Pat and some of their friends to watch it from the Pacific Crab Company which apparently has a great view and great food, so I am psyched about that!

One of the Girls!

On Tuesday night Sarah cooked a big feast for all of us.

There was spinach salad with strawberries and goat cheese, fettucini with browned butter pine nut sauce, and chicken with tomatoes and eggplant in a balsamic sauce and yummy baked peaches with rice pudding for dessert. Very Yummy!

After dinner Sarah, Tiff & I decided to play the Sex & the City trivia game.

It took a few glasses of champagne, but we managed to lure Joel into the mix too! God knows the poor guy has been forced to watch enough episodes over the years to know half the answers!!

He did particularly well with the charades. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time!

Dad stopped by for a bit too. He just got back from a trip across Canada. Here's a cute picture of him with the boys. I told you he looked like Jim Byrnes!!
